Everson lorieeverson@bellsouth.net Published: Frazier and Son website Joseph Elmer Whittle ROCHELLE - Funeral services for Joseph Elmer Whittle, 86, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, in the Christian Home Baptist Church. Kelsie Brady, the Rev. Jack Dowdy, Elder Rabon Lord and the Rev. Ray Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Whittle died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in the Pineview Health Care Center. Born on September 5, 1918 in Wilcox County, he was the son of the late Joe D. Whittle and Jennie Wisham Whittle. He was a retired farmer and gospel singer. He sang tenor with the original Melody Makers Quartet. He and his daughters were founders of Master's Trio and he sang at numerous funerals in the middle Georgia area. He was a member of New Providence Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Ricky (Gail) Whittle of Rochelle; three daughters, Jane (Harold) Talton of Bonaire, Janis (Al) Crenshaw of Pitts, and Anita (Hugh) Peacock of Americus; one brother, Milton Whittle of Rochelle; three sisters, Faustine Yarborough of Macon, Brooks Martin of Pitts, and Lottie Tyler of Perry, FL; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Clements Whittle; his son, Joe B. Whittle and daughters Martha W. Keene and Faye W. Ferguson. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
